HUMANISM AND RENEWAL
The term Humanism means to identify a literary movement, intellectuals and artists that originated in Italy in the fourteenth century, during which, the man bought a new confidence in himself.
intellectuals took the masterpieces of antiquity as a reference to create their works, studied them and reworked them, became detached from medieval thought. In this profound spiritual renewal and progressive change of civilization, the religious view of life, medieval influence, he replaced another, according to which earthly existence has its own dignity, regardless of an end-worldly man.
humans then devoted to the study dell'humanitas (word with which denote human qualities in themselves, valued and respected regardless of any other consideration) rather than the Divinitas (a term that implies a conception of 'man determined by providence and then located in a religious perspective).
Humanist intellectuals regarded the man as the 'arteficie of their own destiny, which is characterized by an attitude decidedly individualistic.
The main representatives of that literary movement were:
Poggio Bracciolini, who, in his "rediscovery codes in the monastery of St. Gall, "he moved the enthusiasm in research and discovery of classical texts and his love for the past
Leon Battista Alberti, who with the song" Man is the master of its own destiny, 'says classical humanist thought in which man is responsible for his own fortunes and misfortunes;
Angelo Poliziano that "Simon and Julio: appearance and falling in love" taken from the rooms for the tournament, he notes that it is not so important to the context in which the action takes place but rather to cite and refer the reader to poets such as Dante and Petrarch: we see it as his style recalls the one used by the latter Simonetta and how the girl has the same peculiar characteristics of the woman-angel of Dante, with his "golden head" with "white robe and with a charm that could even save man from sin.
These authors are some of the poets who embraced and popularized this new line of thought, which allowed him to save some important papyrus fragments from the neglect of time and offer us the opportunity of their consultation.
